VZW Prepaid

Virgin is a MVNO using Sprint's network, and Sprint doesn't offer prepaid services itself (or at least in the east Texas area that I'm aware of). So, would this new MVNO using VZW's network be a replacemet of VZW prepaid services and if so would we be seeing Amp'd sold in VZW stores?

from the looks of it there is a chance that this isn't going to be prepaid at all.

either way, verizon wireless makes a lot of money from the contracts with Ampd. It will be more like Vzw prepaid vs Ampd even though theyre both on the same side and wont compete against each other either.

No. Amp'd will offer both pre-paid and post-paid service.

When I met with them, they talked about being careful which retail partners they would align with. Mostly they will sell the service direct via the web. They have a very slick customization site that will let you select your home screen, ringtones, video channels, etc. right when you sign up for the service. When you get the phone and activate it, it downloads everything you selected automatically. It's very cool.

But they will also sell through select retail partners. Since they are very content-oriented, and want to work with "hip" retailers, I think it's much more likely you'd see Amp'd for sale at something like a Disney Store or ESPN Store than a Verizon Store.
