Your phone works on Verizon's network. As of now you should be able to access high speed entertainment clips like sports and news. As for music videos? Those could certainly be down the pipeline. You'll just have to keep watch.

It seems like Verizon is trying to expand their services by attracting young people to Wireless. You know how kids are now a days. They have to have the coolest ringtones. Verizon Wireless is playing their cards right because they will make their money off of additional features.

This isn't Verizon. This is an MVNO. They are just using Verizons network, just like Virgin uses Sprint's.

All of this stuff sounds great and all, but what is the price going to be? They say they're targeting the youth market. But damn, those are some expensive data features, and the handsets sound like they're going to be expensive as well.

Sorry. I don't know why I was thinking that Verizon is starting this company. But they will get a good deal of money just for network usage.

Agreed. Verizon is going to get a boat load of money. Is the EVDO network even going to be completely online by the 3Q?

I think it will be as slow as EDGE (UMTS) is coming out. I think they will try it out in big markets such as New York. It will be a long time before it is a solid network.

EDGE and UMTS are 2 different things.

EDGE is already a solid network, UMTS is only available in several cities.

EV-DO is already available in dozens of major cities such as SanFransisco, D.C. New York, etc. etc. Verizon is planning to expand EV-DO coverage to even more major cities such as St. Louis in April/May which is also when they plan to release their next set of Ev-Do handsets. If they keep rolling out at this pace or faster, you can probably expect to see every major city covered within a year.

Actually you're dead wrong about that. A)EV DO will not be as slow as EDGE. B)It's solid right now.

I think he ment it would be slow coming out, not that the service itself will be slow.

After I strained to read it again, it might say that.

But even then it'd be wrong because as I recall, EDGE wasn't slow in rolling out because it was a simple upgrade to GPRS, EV-DO is something totally different from 1xRTT, right? Or am I wrong?

It operates on it's own spectrum, seperate from the voice data. Which is probably why you see Verizon making all of these deals recently. Maybe they will only be limited, timewise, by the ammount of spectrum they can re-alocate in certain areas.

EVDO is indistinguishable from 1X as a signal but requires its own channel.

GPRS and the simple upgrade?

No such thing exists.

EDGE has the same problem.

Actually, EDGE was a very easy upgrade from GPRS. How else did they roll it out so quickly?

Leasing out additional bandwidth to an MVNO is really, really smart. Money from nothing.

I didn't think that Verizon had additional bandwith in that many markets. Something tells me that this MVNO won't benefit from Verizon's entire network. This whole MVNO deal is surprising to me.

I was thinking about what I said and I guess its not really a matter of renting additional bandwidth out to a company, but renting out a specific amount of space on Verizon's entire network. After all, CDMA's capacity is crazy-huge.

If it's not additional bandwidth, it's existing bandwidth capable of handling the increased traffic. Either way, it's money in the bank for Verizon.

The "entry-level" Kyocera (which is still pretty loaded feature-wise) will be roughly $100.

You can do full music videos on your VX-8000 now. That's a key feature of VCast. Of course, you have to pay for it... music videos are not included in the standard flat rate due to record-label royalties. But they are available.

Don't confuse Amp'd with Verizon Wireless. They will be completely different, separate carriers as far as the public is concerned, and they will offer a different lineup of phones and services.
