There may yet be life after death for PTT. The major drawback of all the other PTT apps in the Play Store is that you can only communicate with others that have downloaded it. Being able to connect with what's left of the Nextel community (albeit tattered at this point) may actually be a benefit to choosing Sprint without having to go with the fashion challenged Nextel handsets... And once its available to all of Android, even better still. More income, and a subscriber base not limited to any one carrier. Bravo Sprint 😉

If this Andriod PTT app works well, and if Sprint can get their CDMA-based Sprint Direct Connect network to work correctly & consistently, they might have something. And if it works, it certainly will be nice for current PTT users to have a much broader choice of more attractive, more capable mobile devices to choose from.

Nothing to do with Sprint, but in the same vein as Android-based PTT devices, here are a couple of links on the new Harris ruggedized LTE Android PTT phone for first responders, to be used on the new FirstNet nationwide, unified emergency services wireless network in the 700 MHz region:

It will certainly be nice to broaden the appeal of PTT services to those without ruggedized handsets such as those on the Samsung GSIII and Evo's and other smartphones. Business users now more than ever need email and internet and need to be connected to everything corporate all the time. I can see this being successful is Sprint can fix their PTT problems and properly market the product for use by everyone, not just business users. You are right, people don't know how to utilize PTT services correctly. You don't always have to have the speakerphone blaring!
