Re: $499
T-mobile Exhibit II 4g...
With new contract: $29
Same SKU with "no contract/SRP": $329
Prepaid kit SKU for same phone: $179
No way are they actually giving up $150 on prepaid phones. And you can buy a Sony Xperia U on Amazon (profitable retail price having nothing to do with a carrier) for as low as $211. The Xperia is a somewhat better phone, so T-Mobile can't be giving too much of a discount for prepaid phones.
Verizon is harder to judge because their only prepaid Android phone is not listed online with contract pricing, but a $150 phone with an HVGA screen sounds about typical for the US market right now. Problably not a significant discount.
Also, Verizon has a Galaxy Nexus! It's not the GSM version of course, but the GSM version comes direct from Google for $350, and Verizon's "suggested" price for their cdma version of the same phone is... $650! No bleeping way does the cdma version legitimately cost $300 more than the GSM version. Clearly they are offering good deals to prepaid customers and trying to scam you if you need a new phone in the middle of a contract.
