Chevy, Ford Add Smartphone-Based GPS Apps to Cars
While this is a nice gesture...
I mean I don't know if there's any reason you wouldn't be able to use an AUX input while using Sync (I've no experience with the tool), but that's the only way I can see anyone ever using these tools.
If I'm missing something, someone let me know.
To get the full GPS experience through Google, you need an Android device. 3rd party apps such as Telenav mentioned in the article will work on more than 1 platform with the full GPS system. They do offer a free service, as well as charging for the full GPS system. This service will allow you to use the GPS from your device to be viewed from the LCD screen on your Stock car stereo, as well as select aftermarket car audio systems. I got the Sony GS-700 system. We use both Android & Apple devices on it. I think this feature is awesome. You should look into it.
