That's.....extremely conservative.....they don't plan to have everyone converted to LTE for 9 more years?

agreed. This seems like a far off date. I guess there are always stragglers but 9 years is a long time...

I Think this is more for the Machine 2 Machine customers than anything else. Those customers have to buy new equipment and transfer all their machine to a new standard. These companies want to make sure the equipment they buy will last years because converting a whole company from EDGE/ 1X to LTE is an expensive project.

Also they want to make sure LTE is here to stay unlike Sprints WiMax network. I know in my rural area the electric company use AT&T M2M network to connect several junctions and meters so they monitor their network for blackouts and usages, and the water companies does something similar for their water networks.

If VERIZON launches LTE feature phones which do not require a data plan let's talk.

Right. There are plenty of customers (like my mom) who will never see a 4G handset. I remember how people held onto those Nokia 5165s until the very end.

The way you get people to get rid of their outdated equipment is to stop selling it...Verizon has already said that they will not offer any 3G phones any more...when VoLTE is available just don't sell anything except LTE only phones....people don't even need to know that they are being pushed on to a new network.

at&t is being pretty aggressive about forcing people off the 3G and 2G networks by actually disabling the 3G and 2G radios for people who live in areas with 4G coverage....

Yeah, that will work for some. But not me. I have two Samsung Fliphots as backups for her and I do know my way around Ebay. A sixty year old woman doesn't need a 4G handset. Just give me a feature phone and keep it moving.

She'll need an LTE phone when there are no other networks to use...

It won't be a Verizon handset, that's for sure.

Where do I get it from? You mean OTHER THAN the fact that I'm an at&t customer and the last software update for the Blackberry Torch 9860 removed my ability to choose the network I am on and use 3G or 2G instead of 4G? And that as a result of my no longer be able to drop down to 3G my battery life, which used to be a good 48 hours between charges has dropped down to only 14 hours between charges? (Which is why I wanted to be able to drop down and use 3G in the first place.)

The OnStar system built into most GM cars uses Verizon CDMA. Most people don't replace their cars as often as their phones.

Great point! This gives hope that they really will keep 1x running until 2020.

Enterprise and government contracts. It's easy to kick off individual users.
