How does Microsoft expect for Windows Phone to take off when they're doing the one carrier B.S. again. Nokia needed to pull a Samsung and the release the phone on all carriers at once. That's the only way. Haven't they learned anything from Palm and the Sprint fiasco?

I don't think it is Nokia's choice...the other carriers have just been hesitant to get on board the Windows Phone train....

You have to assume that Nokia isn't going to stop with the Lumia 820 and 920...they are going to be making other phones...some of which may wind up with other carriers....it's a little early at this point to make judgements about their marketing strategy.....

Yea i get that but you have to think if this is supposed to be there first of a series of windows 8 phones that is supposed to be leading windows 8 phone software and a failing nokia company back into the phone business this "should" be an amazing phone that everyone possible can get ahold of. you think if iphone would be half as big if they never expanded to more then at&t.?

Well....why does any manufacturer offer carrier 'exclusives'? There has to be something in it for them.....

sure that helps the carrier though. windows and nokia want/need their software and phones out there so more people can buy them. even if you have to pay each carrier an amount of money for them to carry it. you might lose money on the first sales but overall you get your product out there and your name. just like amazon did with the kindle fire. you lose money off each kindle you sell but you make enough money later that it'll be worth it. You only get some many chances to push your product out there before people dont take them (your products) seriously and its going to hurt you a lot more in the long run. Right?

Smart move on ATT part if they truly are the only ones to get the 920. Im sure alot of people will go over to ATT just to get one.

"How does Microsoft expect for Windows Phone to take off when they're doing the one carrier B.S. again."

1) This is a Nokia phone. Not a Microsoft phone. Just like Galaxy isn't made by Google, it's made by Samsung.

That means the decision to be AT&T exclusive is between AT&T and Nokia. Don't blame MS for this decision.

2) "Microsoft" will have other phones (I know of atleast 4-5 Windows 8 Phones in the wood works). I assume some of those will be Verizon exclusives.

"Other Windows Phone 8 devices slated for release include the HTC 8X and 8S, as well as the Samsung Ativ S. Verizon is expected to carry ...

Nah The rumors anyways have a phone by windows named "windows surface phone" original right? but yeah that could be sweet. I hope to see windows do there own hardware in the future. The surface looks interesting and sure it a beauty as far as design. But to the orignal post I know windows and nokia are seperate and windows doesnt make the choice on which carrier gets it. but I think that windows would have been smart to pressure nokia and the carriers to all pick up the lumia 920 as it is the leading phone with windows 8 as far as the media is conserned. (I cant see why this would be bad for nokia either so im not sure why they did stick to just at&t either)

Offering your first Windows 8 phone exclusive to at&t makes sense for a number of reasons, for one, at&t is the only carrier that has aggressively been supporting Windows Phone, the others have been lukewarm at best....for another thing, at&t is the biggest GSM carrier, and they have a huge international presence and a large number of business customers....and at&t has more LTE coverage than any other GSM carrier....certainly making the Lumia 920 an at&t exclusive makes a lot more sense than Palm making the Pre a Sprint exclusive back in 2009....that was really a bone headed move....
