You dont need 802.11b with Verizon Broadband Data. ...
That's true for most people. But then there are plenty people who spend most of their day in school or corporate campuses and buildings covered with wi-fi. For those people, wi-fi is very much worth the trouble to set up (just a one-time affair, instead of every time like with hotspots), and it's certainly cheaper (free) and faster than EV-DO.
I'm not saying every device needs wi-fi, but there certainly is a market for it, even with EV-DO.

I believe there is still a need for Wi-Fi. 802.11b is up to 11Mbps or 22 times faster than EV-DO 500Kbps. Sprint and Verizon have typically not offered Wi-Fi. Some have said because they want to sell more data use. Most of my customers use the unlimited data plans. Also Wi-Fi on a PocketPC is typically for different uses than WAN type of wireless. Personally I would like Wi-Fi to connect to media, and files on my home network. Professionally you could access corporate intranets, and corporate mail servers like Exchange, and Domino - (this can also be done over WAN).
