LightSquared Floats New Spectrum Proposal with FCC
Hopefully , Lightsquared gets spectrum it can use
More options are better. I hope Lightsquared can get some regulatory love from the FCC.

Lightsquared wants the FCC to let them use a thing directly next to another thing which is harmed by it. Their proposal is to leave permanently unused a chunk of spectrum large enough to run a small cellular service (the smallest 1900-band blocks in the US being 10 MHz). It can't currently be used for that, but the point is that this is a large chunk of space to waste.
If you like more options, Lightsquared's proposal is not a good long-term plan. They are asking for the FCC to waste space to make up for a bad idea. The FCC already has a goal of maximizing available wireless services, and it is not an easy thing to do while avoiding massive restructuring. They do not need the kind of dumb ideas Lightsquared has been offering.

They did request for the FCC to swap spectrum so they'll have some that the FCC feels won't interfere with GPS functioning.

Yeah, they requested the FCC to swap their cheaply bought worthless spectrum for some high-value useful spectrum. For free, if I remember right.
I don't know enough about cellular spectrum to comment on the new deal, but it somehow wouldn't surprise me if it was a badly though-out deal that only benefited Lightsquared.
