Hopefully they will quickly release versions that support GSM 800 (850) fo Cingular/ AT&T customer base. 🙄

I don't think they will be. Isn't Nokia the only one that is making bar style phones for Cingular now? I thought that was mentioned somewhere, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

No. I don't think that is right. Cingular offers the T637 (T630 for GSM 850.1800/1900) and the S710 (S700 for GSM 850/ 1800/1900). Very interesting, though that the K700 was never modified to support GSM 850 so you may be correct regarding the candy bar style phones.

As the largest provider in the US market (48 million customers) SE not building phones that support their network would eliminate SE access to a very large pool of potential buyers.

Yes, they still offer the current bar style phones. From what I read, once these are gone you will only see Nokia in that style from cingular. The S710 doesn't count, it is a "swivel" phone. It is a pitty, I enjoyed the SE bar style phones. There is always ebay I suppose 🙄

Yeah! That is a shame if true! The T616 was a revelation for me in terms of connectivity - if not RF performance.

I hope that you are wrong and SE continues to provide candy bar phones to Cingular across all market segments.

They need the market share to drive folks to the higher-end (profitable) phones - IMHO.

Problem is how many US customers really buy highend phones? They want the phone for 99 cents. Not the $500+ phone. I've been hoping for a quad band SE phone for far too long.

I agree with the Quad band concept in the market. I don't know what the economics are and I bet that the providers here in the US might have some reservations as quad band certainly drops another barrer to provider migration - that would help T-Mobile but hurt Cingular.

I am seeing a lot of Treo 600s and 650s among my client base so it must be a tenable market sector.

BTW, my impressions of the 650 are that it is a palm with a phone - and a really bad phone based on the conversations I have had where they were the other end.

I think, however, that the market for high-end phones only increases as Americans begin to appreciate SMS and MMS services - and as the providers realize them as an income stream. I also think that SE plays i...

These are all phones carried NOW. Not future models. The current phones which are already out will be the last of the bar style phones aside from Nokia from what I understand.

Yeah I also noticed that to but to be honest I can almost guarantee that siemens and Sony ericsson for sure will probably release further barstyle phones in the future, they probably just haven't been officially announced yet.
