Replying to: We think it would have been better if [Apple] had kept ours. But what do I know? by srich27 Sep 26, 2012, 8:09 AM
Rumors have been coming out about the reasoning. Apple wanted turn by turn directions and Google didn't want to implement it into the current build of the maps offering. They still had a year left on the agreement for Google to be the provider of the maps. Some will say they should have waited until Maps was a lot better than the current state and I agree to an extent. The maps in general were great, however features like turn by turn along with seamless integration with Siri should be there for maps. Maps will get better as they continue to update it, it has made improvements all through-out the beta and will continue to do so. The question is - how long will that take?
From my tests with iOS6 maps, I haven't had an issue. I also live near a popular city though.
