Google's Schmidt Says No Maps App for iOS Yet

We think it would have been better if [Apple] had kept ours. But what do I know?

Anyone else hear the snark in that? I can only imagine Schmidt sitting in a big office somewhere giggling to himself. Can't say I blame him. I'm not going to **** talk other people's choice of OS, but I really think Apple shot themselves in the foot by dropping Google Maps. Every iOS user I know is wildly disappointed by iOS6 and down right upset at the loss of Google Maps. A couple are even switching ecosystems and planning to get the new Nokia in the following month or so (likely not JUST over Apples maps sucking, but that was a huge complaint they had when they were talking about the change of heart)

That less than a week after its release people are clamoring for a GMaps app is telling (has iOS6 been out less than a week, or was ...

Rumors have been coming out about the reasoning. Apple wanted turn by turn directions and Google didn't want to implement it into the current build of the maps offering. They still had a year left on the agreement for Google to be the provider of the maps. Some will say they should have waited until Maps was a lot better than the current state and I agree to an extent. The maps in general were great, however features like turn by turn along with seamless integration with Siri should be there for maps. Maps will get better as they continue to update it, it has made improvements all through-out the beta and will continue to do so. The question is - how long will that take?


From my tests with iOS6 maps, I haven't had an issue. I also live...
