I think it's fascinating that the initial response from most outlets was lukewarm,

but the reviews have been consistently very positive.

From what I gather the feature list seems modest at first, but even just bringing it up to date with the flagship android lineup is enough to make it a strong recommendation again?

It is a question of what comparison you make...if you compare the iPhone 5 to previous iPhones...sure it's better...but if you compare it to all the OTHER phones out there.....it's just not all that.....and Apple's problem is that most people aren't just comparing this to previous iPhones, they are comparing it to the Galaxy S III, the Galaxy Nexus and the Lumia 920.....and Apple does very poorly in that comparison....

It is a sad moment for Apple that in the month of September there were two big 'new phone unveil' moments, Nokia with Windows Phone 8 and the iPhone 5........and the iPhone 5 was the one that people forgot.....

Care to explain "better"? Are you going for specs? design? performance? Your personal opinion?

You can say it sucks all you want, but you appear to be in the minority.

So far the iPhone has been noted to be the fastest phone currently available now.

2 million pre-orders on Apple.com alone in 24 hours, and people seem to have forgot..oh ya..twice as many pre-orders as the 4S in 24 hours..

I'll take facts instead of listening to someone talking out of their butt.

Also, more facts for you..on that whole "forgot about the iPhone 5.."

Apple said today that it sold 5 million of its new iPhone 5 smartphones over the weekend, topping the mark set by last year's iPhone 4S by 1 million units.

Argumentum ad populum is one of those.

I think we should start seeing other PSers.

Sorry he's not in the minority. Apple no longer innovates. It litigates.

Ok so Apple gave you a larger screen this time. Fine. But it should have been at least 4.3" with full 720p. But instead they opted for the oddb...

IMHO The Apple iPhone is not just the device and the os that is running on it. I have over $200 in apps that me and my wife have access to with one purchase. This apps where purchased once from the 1st iPhone that I purchased three years ago and they are still being updated today. I use iTunes Match for the over 65gb of music I have, it had it's issues in the beginning but it works get now.

I tried using Google Maps once and it was a joke, I then purchased 3 other true gps programs and settled in on Co-Pilot, in Dallas, Apple Maps is more accurate than Co-Pilot, and it also will improve.

Apple makes the hardware and the software, so when there is an issue they can and do fix it, and they fix it rather quickly.

When will JB be ava...

The response to iOS 6 was lukewarm, and the response to the physical phone was positive.
The features of iOS 6 seem lackluster, especially for the casual user who just wants their phone to easily do things like go to YouTube.
All in all, the combination of phone & OS puts the 5 squarely in the "average" tier, if a bit high on that tier.
