WOW I have upgraded from Gingerbread and ate an ICE Cream Sandwich not much different food is food long as it feels my belly..... Then people start crying about how it was not that much different! Then you have the people saying it is because it's a different type of food that makes it different... Well I am here to say Fanboys to their own it won't matter if apple makes a phone that could move a mountain but then critics will say I would get the free model on an upgrade because there is no difference between the two !!! GIve me a break throwing the 4g LTE Chip inside made it way different... Enough people are buying their products because it lasts longer than other phones (not saying the iphones wont break or that they don't have problems.....

There are two ways that people are looking at the iPhone 5...

There are those who are comparing it only to previous iPhones, and by that standard, sure....it excels....

But then are those who are comparing the iPhone 5 to OTHER smartphones on the market....and by that standard, it's a gigantic fail.....all they did was add a bunch of features that have been standard on other platforms for more than a year, while omitting a bunch of other features, like NFC, that literally every other phone has (including the Blackberry 7's!)

Apple's traditional policy is to hold back....NOT add everything they possibly can to devices, but to deliberately withhold important features so that people will have a reason to upgrade to next year's version...

If you are looking for the power and functionality of a laptop to be crammed into a mobile phone, then yes, the iPhone doesn't measure up at all... not even close. However, if you are just looking for a mobile phone that doubles as an internet browser, music and video player, camera and camcorder, a GPS, and a mobile assistant, and does all of these basic essentials really really smoothly and well in a nice package, then the iPhone is probably your best bet.

Granted, the Android devices sell for cheap... but with the iPhone, Apple's genius is that you are not only paying for the parts and labor to make the device and its software, but also for the future labor that the device will perform on your behalf throughout its lifetime... and lab...

"Apple just builds the iPhone with the user-experience foremost in their collective corporate mind."

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Really? Have you SEEN iMaps? Anyone who claims "customer first" and releases that turd is an iDiot or a liar.

Apple cares about one thing: $. Never forget that.

I never said that Apple doesn't care about money... in fact, if you read between the lines, you will see that I pointed out that they really do care only about money in the end. I cannot possibly forget it when it is in my face all the time.

They have found a genius way to make loads of money on a minimal investment, because it caters specifically and especially well to "convenience-based" and "social" consumers (who are a strong majority of almost any market these days). Also, I did not say "customer first" at any time... "user-experience foremost" does not denote any particular desire to help the user, either... it depends on who you understand to be the "user" in the end.

I am not, and never plan to be, an iPhone owner or user, so...

You seem to be arguing against a position I don't actually hold..I didn't say that the iPhone is a bad phone, I said that it is no longer the industry leader, it is behind its competitors in specs and features. I didn't say it's a bad phone.

If the "industry leader" is defined by which phone has the best specs and features, then your are correct... but the profits from this market tell us a different story about the definition of an "industry leader". If anything, this is proof that specs and feature availability are not the trait that defines "industry leadership" in this market, and that someone HAS figured out that consistency defines that role, even if that requires a technological lag to preserve a user-experience that is held to be universal, iconic, and familiar. The Apple iPhone IS the industry leader in mobile phones because Apple collects a majority of all of the profits made in the ENTIRE industry... that is the most commonly accepted measure of success and leadersh...
