Well....look.....an official Apple data cable for an iPod Shuffle....$12.99....a third party cable that works just as well $1.99....
Why pay the Apple premium if you don't have to?
And it's still a serious question, why Apple is sticking to its proprietary 30 pin technology when it would be better and easier for everyone if they just used mini-USB.....and the answer is because Apple has to be different.....if Apple made a car it would have square wheels, not because there is any benefits to having square wheels, but because square wheels would be different.
