Apple Maps?
So...we're supposed to feel good about the fact that they are abandoning the tried and true Google Maps for something that hasn't been tested yet? Ummm.....if I were an iPhone user I wouldn't be very happy to hear that... 🤨

Google Maps has been tried and true on Android, which they clearly favored over iOS for obvious reasons. At least now Apple can improve the Maps app independently from Google.

I don't think that Google decided to stop supporting Maps for iPhone, I think Apple kicked them to the curb...
...
It's not that they weren't supporting Maps, it's that as features were being added to Google Maps for Android, the iOS version was being ignored.
I don't know what went down behind the scenes, but it did seem like Navigation was a huge selling point for Android when it was launched, and it continues to be right now.

I had always heard that it was Apple's responsibility to write/maintain/and update the iOS Google Maps app, that Google pretty much gave them access to the map data and features, but Apple had to actually make it work properly on their phones....? I may have been fed incorrect information about that though....

My guess is the contract ended just like the Youtube App. At least they will get a sufficient app in the App Store. The Android maps app was a hell of a lot better than Apples. Apple only had a 5 year contract with Google for those applications, now it's ended. Instead of rehashing those apps that offer nothing new, why not get something to replace them (that they have been testing maps..hence the multiple beta's that improved each beta update). Quit being so biased and look into something before spouting your mouth. You seem to do that a lot.
