I was on a road trip through there two months ago or so and noticed I was getting an LTE signal, so it has been at least up for testing there for some time now.

AT&T is being more aggressive with the LTE rollout than they where with 3G. I just hope they update some Edge areas to at least 3G.

That would be great.
Voice they should keep the 2G for awhile until all 2G phones get phased out.

Aren't they killing off Edge in a ton of areas already? Hopefully LTE in the LA area starts expanding, with the iPhone coming, I want to test it out without driving into LA to try it.

Hopefully AT&T has learn from the launch of the original iPhone. It destroyed the Edge network and the Iphone 3G had almost the same effect on its 3G network. They seems to have finally upgraded their netwrok to support all the 3G and Edge data intensive phones. LTE iPhone will bring LTE mainstream and we will finally be able to see what a LTE network fully loaded reacts like.

I seriously doubt that the next iPhone will have LTE...

I guarantee the device will..the iPad 3 has it. Verizon themselves have said they will not release any 3G only devices as well. Apple would be shooting themselves in the foot if they didn't release it with LTE.

Apple is always, always at least 1 or 2 generations behind in terms of hardware, and given the way that LTE drains battery life....I don't know why Apple would want to jump on the 'charge your phone 3 times a day' train..

so you are telling me that apple cannot make their precious iPhone last 14 hours in an LTE area. I do think he droid razr maxx, the htc one x, and the galaxy S3 can last all day in an LTE area with data on, or thats what phonescoops review say.

The reason why LTE runs down battery life is because LTE is for data ONLY, there is no voice over LTE....this means that any LTE phone has to run at least two and maybe three cellular radios at once....obviously, the more cellular radios you run, the faster the battery will run down....and no amount of Apple ingenuity can fix that....

Moreover, let's be honest here: 14 hours of battery life on a charge is simply atrocious, indeed I would say anything less than at least 48 hours is atrocious..,,one shouldn't have to constantly be near an electrical outlet to use a mobile phone...the whole 'mobile' part of the 'mobile phone' is rather important...

I'll agree that 14 hours is pretty sad, but 48 hours is just wildly unnecessary (imo). As long as the device runs a full day of use, I don't care if I need to plug it in before going to sleep every night. Even with an excessively huge battery, I'd probably still plug it in at night anyway. Just seems sensible to me -shrug-
