Although it looks like Samsung at least improved the materials from the dead-****roach-carcass Galaxy SIII, the hardware doesn't match the hard-edged angles of the UI (something the HTC and especially Nokia devices are good at.)

But it definitely does clash. I think Nokia would have been a better bet for "first Windows 8 phone manufacturer" position.

And of course, there are those of us who don't really care if our electronic devices look pretty or not.....just like sexy care people buy sports cars, and people who just want to get from point A to point B get a Subaru...

Depends on what you consider boring. If you need to have animated pictures as your wallpaper or a Mickey Mouse clock on your home screen, then yeah, WP would be boring to you. However, I'm not sure how WP8 will be, in regards to customizing. What has been shown so far is just the out of the box look.
From my understanding, WP8 will lift some of the restrictions that has hindered serious customizing the tiles or home screen. Some developers had the right idea about being able to use a picture to customize your home screen but, were limited to the functions that could be used in the tiles themselves. If MS allows devs or consumers to be able to customize tiles, that will be a welcomed edition. Also...
