Review: Motorola Photon Q for Sprint

I'm too lazy to search the archives and make sure, but based on your comparisons and the descriptive examples you gave on this phone (Atrix HD, DROID 4) it seemed like you have never even seen a Motorola Photon 4G (without the Q). I get that its essentially the same as the Atrix 4G, but you never referenced that either. Anyway, based on the review, you confirmed all of my worst fears, they kept the phone at par in some areas but made it worse in others, (8GB internal memory that you didn't mention, vs. the 16GB internal that the Photon shipped with, same 8mp camera that takes horrible pics, same 1080p video capture, sealed battery that still wont make a full day on 4G, sub par speaker phone... I could go on, the comparisons were there to b...

Clearly you see that I gathered enough info from your review to formulate an opinion about the phone despite my complaints, so thanks for taking the time to review the phone anyway. Knowing it still has the same lame cheap feeling plastic back was just another nail in the coffin for me 🙂

I reviewed the Photon 4G a year ago. I thought that was a great phone. It was a slab-style device, though, and not a slider. https://www.phonescoop.com/articles/article.p hp?a=8574
The Photon Q shares few features with the Photon 4G other than the name and a general familial resemblance (different form factor, different software, different radio). You can be sure it has almost none of the same components. The Q has more in common with Motorola's most recent devices.
I compared the Photon Q to the Droid 4 because the two have a nearly identical look and feel (sideways sliders), and the keyboard is essentially the same. I referenced the Atrix HD only because it uses the exact same software skin as the Photon Q.

I thought it was a far-better review of this phone than I've read elsewhere. Some reviews barely even mention how this is a Sprint version of the Droid 4 with on-screen nav keys, a camera button (finally, though why isn't it two-stage like on Droid1 and 2?), slightly less internal memory, NFC, and a 1.5ghz Snapdragon.
I love my Droid 4, especially now that I have ICS running on it. I'm very glad other carriers are getting high-end qwerty sliders, I just hope they stop getting larger and stick to the 4" screen size. The Q manages to have a 4.3" instead, though overall dimensions did not increase somehow. I'm a little upset that the screen is the same exact ratio and resolution as the Droid 4's 4" screen, but yet uses up pixels for the ...

I realized it came across a little harsh, and that's why I replied to my post. Thanks again, Eric for taking the time to review the phone. Like bofis said, you covered more than most, but I tend to look for the best from you guys at phonescoop, not just a little better than everyone else, thus my overall disappointment. I have do disagree with you about the 2 having few features in common. In fact, aside from the slider form factor, once the 4.0 update rolls out in Q4 the switch from WiMAX to LTE radio and reduced 8GB internal memory will essentially be the only differences. And again, don't take it as a stab at you or your review, but .5 Ghz faster processor doesn't make me feel better about all that's lost. I was hugely disappointed in...
