Both may have been given reprimands and in the end, the losses won't be so crucial due to older models, but Apple actually has much more to gain over Samsung. Since Apple customers are very loyal, those seeking to upgrade, will most likely just go to the newest models. I'm sure Apple wouldn't mind this at all.

Apple makes about 60% of its total revenue from the iOS lineup....and they have a rather limited line up of devices....Samsung on the other hand offers a very wide variety products ranging from phones, laptops, TV',s digital cameras, vacuum cleaners, washing machines, microwave ovens, etc etc etc etc for Apple to be forbidden from selling a couple products is a major blow....for Samsung it's no big deal, they can always says 'hey, they only banned 2 of our approximately 200 consumer products, no biggie'

It is a much bigger blow to Apple

Really? I don't think anyone looking to buy an iPhone 3s is in the ranks of the Apple loyal. Those people already have their iPhone 4's by now (or are looking to upgrade to them). Those looking for a 3s are in the budget crowd, an offering Apple is sadly in short supply of. The only other real alternative is a budget Android phone. I'm not saying they'll get it from Samsung, but it certainly won't be Apple. If Apple doesn't mind this, they really are the idiotic kind of company most people are starting to believe they are.

Well Zpike,

Two things need to be looked at here.

First and foremost: Losing or even receiving a split decision from peers of Samsung's own home turf is never good. If you can't get majority in this area, the outlook can be far more worse away from the turf. This scenerio clearly played out yesterday.

Two: In Apple's portfolio, the 3Gs and 4, are in all reallity old handsets. Purchasing them for practically free as the 4s is now preferred by Apple consumers and now the 5 is on the way. Since contracts end every two years, the 4s and 5, will most definitely oust the previous as their consumers upgrade. Samsung on the other hand, is still selling many of the handsets affected by the suits. This is never good when injuctions are highly...

Why do people keep calling it 'the iPhone 5' when it will be the 6th generation iPhone? Seriously, that makes no sense.

You have a point. Apple really hasn't revealed the number.

But here's the deal and why it's confusing. Apple's original offering was launched with no 3G broadband technology. So when they launched their second model, they wanted to emphasize that their new phone had 3G. For their 3rd phone, they unlocked the processor for more speed and added the "s" to emphasize that. So the next iteration became 4G to emphasize their fourth generation phone but confused the public that it had 4G broadband technology. Then the 4Gs launched to again emphasis increased processor speed yet still didn't have 4G network access. It would make sense to call it the iPhone 6 for their 6th generation. Eseentially, because of the 3G model, they are behind one numb...
