Not sure about 'impressing' Apple, but they sure as heck don't want to get sued. Not sure if T-Mobile or Samsung would be held responsible for their particular variation of the device. Not that Apple would sue T-Mobile while its neck-deep its Samsung case. Its a little disappointing, but with any luck the rumors are true, and there is a Universal Search workaround included in the upcoming Jellybean update.
Fortunately for me I don't really use the search bar for anything other than web searches anyway.
