The Sprint Nextel merger took a company with 21 million subs or so and merged it with one with something like 16 million if I recall correctly. It wasn't a factor in the grand scheme and the fact that it only ended up COSTING Sprint money made it a foolish endeavor. At the end of the day Sprint STILL was number three and losing subscribers constantly as the Nextel rats fled the sinking ship. Mergers ARE still okay. Sprint merging with a Metro or Leap would possibly be allowed. But NOT a Verizon or AT&T. That's just the way it is. Carriers with a hundred million customers should be promptly disabused of the idea that they will be allowed to takeover a smaller carrier...JUST the way AT&T was in that T-Mobile transaction. Might Sprint possibly be allowed to merge with T-Mobile down the road? Frankly, I would be against it. I'd rather a brand new player buy them out (like Google) but if left with no alternative but T-Mobile going under or Sprint buying them I suppose I would have to live with that. But AT&T or Verizon? No way. Enough is enough.
