...the merger which created Verizon in from Bell Atlantic Mobility, Airtouch Cellular, PrimeCo and GTE made them the largest carrier. Bellsouth and SBC combined their wireless operations creating Cingular Wireless and later buying out AT&T Wireless made them the largest carrier. Verizon going back on its promise to leave Alltel alone for ten years following its creation made THEM the largest carrier once again. Verizon and AT&T are well run companies but don't kid yourself. It was acquisitions that made them the monster carriers they are today. Hell SBC bought out the real AT&T enabling them to change Cingular's name to AT&T (Mobility). In any event, Hesse is right. We won't allow these two carriers to absorb any more small fries. Period. End of story. They'd best grow their customer bases the right way from here on out. I have every confidence that they will.
