Not surprising

Since Tracfone now owns Simple, this it not that surprising. Net10 has a $50 unlimited so this price is in line with that brand.

SimpleMobile works off of T-Mobile 1900 native footprint. You get what you pay for.

Most people on a pre paid plan do not care about national coverage.

Nope, they use 1700. 1900 is AT&T, I thought.

MetroPCS uses 1700AWS in the northeast and some other areas otherwise its 1900 with their roaming partner Sprint and their older areas.

Correct, Simple Mobile uses T-Mobile's 1700mhz, not 1900. And currently T-mobile's data speed is outdoing At&t and Sprint's as well. So in regards of a phone service that can only use gsm/gprs capible phones, $50 for 4G sounds pretty good to me.
