Open Access... Hmmmm... Shouldn't Verizon be forced to allow any compatible device on its network as long as it poses no threat to the network?

I'd say so. It's wireless so you can't physically hurt the network, and if their engineers are any good, the network itself provides security rather than depending on devices to behave. That's basic "security 101".

I worked in IT for 11 years, and we NEVER relied on the client machines to be secure - we enforced security at the network and server level.

So you're saying that Verizon's Any Device Initiative which NEVER materialized because Verizon had to make sure the devices were secure was indeed a sham?

I think that's a BS reason for that not to happen.

Real world example: Cable modem companies. They have their network set up to provide you with access, and secured to keep you out of their infrastructure. You can hook up anything to it from a router to a computer to whatever needs access, and even if your stuff isn't properly secured, the network is... Problem solved.

So either Verizon is doing it under that guise to maintain control over the subscribers and make more money, or they're admitting to such crappy security they are a...
