The reason some folks have labeled Nextel as a failing technology is because it is. Nobody outside of the workplace uses PTT anymore...everyone texts. Ever tried texting on a Nextel? It's no fun at all.

Besides, Sprint isn't getting rid of the service, they're merely switching it over to CDMA...A network with 3X the coverage.

You ask why not stick with IDEN? A better question to ask is why have a unique product? The problem with unique products is the whole compatibility issue. Who is the average Joe going to talk to on DC other than family members? Outside the workplace, DC is even less worthwhile than Blackberry messenger.
