Nokia Announces New Voice Messaging Software
Doesn't this seem a bit redundant?

I think it's pretty cool. I'd use it. It's certainly easier than typing out messages. Call me lazy, but I like it
The beauty of SMS is that you can write and read messages silently, like when sitting in a meeting or in a theater.
Besides, think about this: it's been possible to record and send voice messages via Internet email for many years. 10 years ago, Eudora email client had a voicemail plug-in which made it very easy to do just that with a couple of clicks. Yet, it hasn't caught on.

This way, you can tell someone what you're thinking without having to listen to their opinion. That's the only practical application I can come up with.
This is a far cry for wanting to tell someone something and not having to listen to their opinion. When you call someone, you don't know if you're going to get them or their voicemail. So if you're willing to call and take the chance of them picking up, you must not be too worried of having to hear their opinion.

I think voicemail was invented to give a caller the ability to leave the person they are calling a message if they are unable to take the call.
