Why bother now......this is why apple rules

You probably got most of the galaxy s 2 users to switch to s 3 already by now. Next you will release s 4 and give jelly to s 3 users afterwards......this is just sickening plain and simple.

Apple handles all software upgrades by themselves and does not give carriers any say in matters they shouldn't have say in anyhow. Samsung released the upgrade in start of q1 and sprint holds it out till start of q3 to push the s3 sales.....a phone that sprint stores didn't even have adequate stock in. So now having plan backfired, sprint tries to deliver on their promise of being the first s 2 to have new os after all the other variants have it.....nice job.....that is why u guys lose customers

I'm a loyal Sprint and Anroid customer and can't even argue with this. Android is just too fragmented at this point. Too many different devices running too many variations of Android. They need to take a step back, stop pumping out new devices every 3 months and streamline their OS.

Or how about letting android decide the when which where and how's about the software upgrades....

Sprint is on a new level of low though. They r selling the s3 which is an s 2 with twice the ram on the slowest ranked 3 g carrier speed nationwide of the 4 major carriers and sells it with 4g let which won't kick in till 2013 they say but 2014 to be ralistic

Most complaints about Android fragmentation are crap. And here's why. The argument goes something like, there are too many devices running different versions and no one can keep up with them. This sucks and we need to find a way to get everyone on the same version. Inevitably the proposed solution is something like yours. Slow down the rate of development so everyone can have the same experience at the same time.

So, suppose I've just developed the Latest Greatest Operating System, LGOS. I release my first stable build, LGOS v1.12. Everyone loves it and every major manufacturer starts selling it on their handsets. Its an instant success. But critics start talking about features it doesn't have and things it does poorly. I care about my O...

That was a good summary, another factor to keep in mind that since Gingerbread, Android 2.3, Android has stabilized to the point where you can run pretty much anything in Google Play...

The main problem with fragmentation is that you can't run the apps you want because it isn't compatible with your phone. But if you have Gingerbread or higher (and about 60% or more of Android devices now in use run at least Gingerbread) you can run almost every Android app that exists.....

Another factor to keep in mind is, sometimes there is an advantage to running an out of date version of an OS....sometimes the older versions can do something the newer ones cannot...I have a friend who recently upgraded from Gingerbread to Ice Cream Sandwich, and...

>>You probably got most of the galaxy s 2 users to switch to s 3 already by now.
And switching to better hardware is a problem for what reason? I'm going to pretend I didn't hear about the long lines to purchase the iPhone 4s when it was barely even an upgrade.

Yes, that sounds a lot like what happens when technology advances at a rapid pace. Not sure why you're sickened by it.

And this is good why?

How exactly does 2gb of ram help on the s3 as compared to s2 when it still runs on a slow 3g speed barely capable of using .5 gb of ram? Maybe you can call that an upgrade.

Siri in all its perfection as captured by apple is enough of a feature to call 4s an upgrade because it actually helps the user.

As far as deciding when we got software upgrades, duh.....It makes sense of apple doesn't need sprint's and verizon an att pemission in updating software....(for the slow people.....YOU GET IT SOONER......DDDDDDUUUUUUHHHH)i

Siri is a gimmick that barely even works and doesn't even offer more features than other 'virtual assistants' such as Vlingo.....

And Apple is playing a dishonest little game with Siri, on the one hand running ads claiming that it is the killer app for the iPhoen 4S and the greatest thing ever, and then on the other hand hiding behind the excuse that 'it's only a beta' when users discover that it only rarely actually works.

In addition, Apple is playing a dishonest little game in refusing to offer Siri as an update to the iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS,,,,,the fact of the matter is that Siri can run perfectly fine on the 4 and on the 3GS, as is proven by all the hacks people have performed on those phones to get Siri, and yet Apple won't off...

Actually, the 4S has a chip inside that allows for this feature to run properly, whereas the iPhone 4 and 3GS do not.

I mean don't get me wrong.....I am an android fan and android itself is awesome for many reasons....but the chain of command is just too deep. For example:

Step 1. Google releases an update to android.
Step 2. Manafacturers such as samsung have to decide
which of its phones capable of supporting new
software will actually get the updates and when.
Step 3. Carriers have to decide whether to give new update
to current hot phone like epic touch or only release
it to upcoming phone like the s3 to promote sales
even though epic touch is capable to support the
new software as well.
Step 4. Publishing a list of devices to get the software

That's what Apple claims, but people have successfully installed Siri not only on the 4 and 3GS but even on the iPod Touch
