AT&T May Change MVNO Plans
This is great!
They could have borrowed a portion of it from banks or other financial institutions or sold corporate bonds.
I am not sure what they did but it is added to their indebtedness. On top of that they have 26 billion in other debt and they bought AT&T for 8 billion. AT&T has 6 billion in debt that SBC is now responsible for.
This information came from the press release from the SBC website.
SBC and Bellsouth didn't have to "finance" or "borrow" to get the money to buy ATT wireless.
They had it.
Bellsouth had to sell some properties in latin/south america but other than that, they had the CASH.
SBC didn't buy ATT for 8 billion. They are paying 16 billion. It's worth every penny.
You seem to trash talk almost everything that Cingular/SBC does. You were 1000% wrong about the Cingular merger, and you are wrong about SBC/ATT.
Keep up the good work Mr. Sprint saleman. 🙄

Almost everything you just said is pure speculation.

Now when you say they are purchasing ATT for 16 billion dollars what do u mean by that are you referring to ATTWS because they bought ATTWS for 43 billion dollars
Cingular purchased ATTWS(the wireless company) for 41 billion.
SBC is trying to purchase AT&T(the landline company) for 16 billion.
AT&T and ATTWS are 2 different companies.

Forgive me if I don't read as deeply as those who are on the inside.
I am very partial to CDMA technology and I freely admit it.
I do not like the way the Cingular reps have polluted the Verizon forum here. It shows that the reputation of Cingular is not merely a rumor it is the way things are done there.
So no I do not like Cingular, even though it is a well managed company, many of their reps have ethical challenges which can be clearly seen in the Verizon forum.
I don't mind open debate, it is healthy. I refuse to attack an individual, it is wrong. I also do not post on forums where I do n...

You call me a Sprint salesman as if it were a bad thing. Doing so merely shows your bias towards your carrier, which is as it should be.

I don't recall him ever predicting the failure of Cingular wireless.
PS- you, and your friends can call me Cain all you want. It's as true as your predicted failure of Cingular wireless.

Actually,
In one post he stated "Cingular is destined to remain Number 2".
In another, he stated that cingular would inherit ATT's terrible churn rate and subscriber losses.
That's not exactly saying "cingular is a failure", but if Cingular were to remain #2 after the merger, and lose subscribers like the guy said, then that would be considered a "failure". He was wrong on both counts.
I'm sure I could find more quotes, but I'm only willing to spend about 2 minutes on this particular point. If you'd like to find more quotes, just type his name in the search bar and click "all forums"...

SPCSVZWJeff said:So they're awash in debt. So what? It's the American way.
It most certainly is a gamble on the part of SBC. They are already awash in debt and now they are going to add more debt?
This could actually play into Verizon's hands. The speculation is that they want Sprint but the DOJ won't let them. After the DOJ approves this buyout they will have set a precedent for Verizon to buy Sprint.
SPCSVZWJeff said:10-20 yrs? I'd say a great deal less time.
Yes it is, but it doesn't go over well with the shareholders. Remember it is the amount of debt that caused AT&T to spin ATTWS off by way of an IPO. I am sure there is a long term forecast here. SBC must be looking 10-20 years down the road.
