In two years there may be no RIM.

The last time a delay was announced they said that they were waiting for the special dual core processors they would need, and their supplier had a shortage...

There's no explanation for this delay....and if is a parts shortage I say it is time to find a new supplier....

There really is a shortage on both RAM and processors right now and RIM is not the only company experiencing it....

But no explanation for this latest delay makes me suspicious....what the hell is going on? I doubt it's a hardware issue.

I don't think its a hardware issue at this point for this delay.
It's software. It's trying to get a new OS to work within an existing ecosystem with it's separate servers, business clients, legacy platforms that still need to be supported and the occasional person that didn't realize they should have bought an iPhone 🤣

Any company just getting into this business for the first time would have an easier time at it. It was pointed out that Apple worked on IOS secretly for more than 3 years before introducing the iPhone...optimal conditions. RIM has to get this all to work within their own proprietary network.

If they hype BB10 up to Storm like fanfare like they did a few years ago and come out with something that buggy..even thoug...

Maybe.....but I thought Blackberry 10 was supposed to be just the Playbook OS adapted to a phone...and the Playbook OS works beautifully, so I don't see why it would take more than a year of debugging to make it work....

Sigh.....I think I'll take a look at the price of the current Blackberry 7 devices at Best Buy....

I thought it was just an adaptation too and it would be easy to port the OS over to phones. I guess its not. The Playbook was highly criticized for its lack of native email though. Everything had to be rewritten to work on their system. They are dealing with BIS and BES environments too.
Blackberry 7 isn't all that bad. All those phones have bumped up processors and a lot mor...

Well...I'm sure that Blackberry 7 is a vast improvement my over my Blackberry 9800 Torch...I'm just reluctent to invest in a platform which has no future..

But looking at Best Buy....RIM's problems could be my profit....the 9860 is free with 2 year contract....when it is was originally released, it was $99.99...free is good...free is very good.... 🙂

And if I upgrade today, I'll be eligible for my next upgrade by December 2013...so I could get a Blackberry 10 by then...if they are available that is...

I know everyone (probably even Rich now) thinks I sip that RIM koolaid way too much 🤣 , but the 9860 is not that bad of a phone. Doesn't have that wow factor, but it's stable.

maybe it will be the last blackberry under RIM branding...who knows? 👀

RIM still has $2.2 billion in cash reserves....even worst case scenario it will take at least 2-3 years for them to burn through that....assuming that things don't turn around and revenues start to increase....

I think that looking into licensing Blackberry Messenger is a great idea and I frankly wonder why they haven't done it sooner....

The only thing I dislike about BBM is that it only works with Blackberries....if I could use it with everyone I know who has an iPhone or Android phone...I could probably drop my texting plan....

That they are delaying again points to a lack of a "plan B", IMHO. They needed a plan A, B, and C in order to meet deadlines for getting this thing out the door. They don't appear to have those backup plans. They needed to bet everything on this, make it their first priority, and invest heavily. Now we're seeing signs that they haven't done that, and it may be their undoing.

Try six months. They will be bought, sold, or split up in a serious way. Investors will demand it. Being a public company in decline is tough.
