Wow, really?
This must be a feature businesses are requesting or something. I cant imagine anyone wanting to use this type of service. Who uses this anymore? It wasn't popular when they first offered it and it won't be popular, now.

Sorry Vmac39, you're wrong. I had the same opinion as you until I took a job for a construction company. They won't give up Nextel direct connect until Nextel sails off into the night next year. They love the two-way.

Not in the DC, MD, VA area. They use to use two way radios, they moved to PPT service in the peak of its usefulness and now, all calls for service are pushed through dash mounted devices.

All im saying, from what I've seen and heard, outside of businesses, most folks in my opinion aren't all that interested in PTT. Hence, why the service on ATT never really took off. The introduction of increased minutes, unlimited minutes and free mobile to mobile, allowed people to do what they wanted in the first place....talk without going over their minutes.
If you are among the few that find PTT useful, great. But, lets keep childish remarks out of this, simply because I'm pointing out what I think are shortcomings of providing such a service. If you have a different opinion, by all means voice it. That's what the forum is for.

Just for the record, I did try it with ATT, when they first started the service. I owned a LG CU500 which was supposed to be PTT capable but, I never got to use it because no one on ATT really used it and I knew quite a few people the time who were ATT customers and those who happened to own phones that were able to use PTT, didn't bother with the service. Now, maybe it was because they had few phones that people wanted with PTT capabilities but, my opinion is not and was not meant to be absolute. If you took it that way, then I can't really help that. The main reasons why people on at&t don't use PTT are two-fold:
1. They don't know what it is....when I worked for at&t, I got the question 'what does this little button do?' so many times it wasn't even funny....
2. There are very few devices that support it
When you explain what Push to Talk is, people are generally interested, but they then get disappointed when they discover that they can't use it because only one device on their plan supports the feature...
Push to Talk is a very good way for people who need to have short 1-2 minute conversations without using up plan minutes....
I think there is a definite market for it in families, they just need to improve the service and offer it on more devices and I think plenty of ...

If you've ever tried 'real' PTT you would realize how powerful and efficient it truly is. When we are out in the field It's instant communication and IMO allows true simultaneous multitasking, It's like virtually being within earshot of everyone. You can be on the job hammering away and receive verbal communication at the same time and if you need to respond all you need is to hit the PTT button. You don't have to drop everything, pull off your gloves, unlock your phone, and call back or see what your message is about. Many times it's just change of orders or FYI's that are communicated needing no response at all and no need to stop working. So it doubles as a PA system as well. List goes on.....Hopefully the phones will have the speed and r...

As I've stated, in previous responses, I had ATT in mind when I made my comment. I realize my comments weren't as clear as they probably should have been. This had nothing to do with the usefulness of the technology, just ATT's ability to do anything with it, considering, it didn't work well for them before.
I also stated that it may have had a lot to do with the lack of options, when it came to phones and didn't do anything to really promote the service. That's what I meant by "fail".
