If apple spent half as much time on building a phone as they do suing companies over patents they might actually have a phone that could compete with other smart phones these days...

Let's not get crazy. Apple makes a great smartphone. But so does everyone else, now. So the only way to combat this is to sue everyone on earth.

I agree. Apple does make a great smartphone. I won't take that away from them. But they're resorting to anti-competitive practices now. Apple needs to chill. I could see if sales numbers were down but come on. They know their products are gonna sell anyway. The sheep aren't going anywhere and the iPhone is available on more carriers than ever. Hell T-Mobile is even refarming their spectrum. Apple has nothing to be worried about honestly. iPhone sales are their highest and will continue to be.

HTC and other manufacturers need to be more care...

HTC and other manufacturers need to be more careful so they can avoid this type of nonsense in the future. They need to stop giving Apple a reason to phuck with them. A patent is a patent. If it belongs to

Apple's suing HTC for ripping off of their designs (they were found guilty of doing so.)

Apple's also suing HTC for refusing to license essential technology patents under FRAND terms.

These aren't at all the same things. Apple isn't afraid of competition, they just don't want lazy competition using them as an R&D department.

Yeah those ARE the law offices! ;)

Though Apple's definition of R&D is different than ours.

Ours: Research and Development

Apple: Rip-off and Destroy

Actually you're wrong on both counts.

Apple sued HTC for a patent infringement on a method to display multiple options to the user when a number was selected (call/test/save/etc.). It was a couple lines of code that was found to be infringing, not "guilty of ripping off their design." HTC also corrected the issue months in advance of the release of the phone, to which Apple tried to (and succeeded for about a week) in getting an injunction stopping the sale of those phones until they could be checked over for compliance...which they were found to be.

Second, yes Apple is now suing HTC over 4G/LTE patent claiming that it /should/ be FRAND, even though it (currently) isn't. Pretty much Apple decided on its own that the patent should b...

Apples R&D department? I thought they just pay off other companies to invent things for them, they way they recently paid off Liquid Metal to make things for them.

Paying other people to make things for you is not innovation.

I'm not denying the iPhone isn't a good phone but come on now this isn't 2008 anymore I mean come on the iPhone doesn't even have 4g ?... iOS is just so plain you have to jailbreak the phone to even have any degree of customization on the phone
