as mentioned elsewhere, reduced cost, smaller size and lower power consumptions are benefits but there are others.
This solution will enable vendors to put more features into phones (like wifi, gps, bluetooth, multi-mode receivers, or better procesors)at a far lower price point and with better peformance.
