That is true - but LTE still uses more battery power than a WCDMA radio does.
Case in point - compare a CDMA/LTE phone to a GSM/WCDMA phone. The gsm device wins every time. Compare the newest Galaxy S II At&t batter life vs. T-Mobile battery life. GSM wins every time based on comparable battery size.
