I would say at least 4 years to late. Personally, I do not think BB stands a chance,. Way to many people have all ready jumped ship and are in love with either Android or IOS.

Doesn't matter if they even have 1% of the market from this day forward. Competition is good, choice is good.
If platforms from Microsoft, RIM, Nokia, and others fail its not good for anyone.

Blackberry is king in England and of course Canada and many developing countries. They're not going anywhere.

Agree; BB is really big overseas, especially in Asia (they charge differently for air time making BB's especially coveted devices). They just need to re-establish themselves at home and here to stay afloat.

I think BB 10 smartphone with a REAL/PHYSICAL keyboard might steal Android users who dearly & sorely miss have a real keyboard. Thus stealing customers away from smartphone manufactures who refuse to offer the consumer market any choice.

They've already announced that they intend to continue offering consumers the choice, either touchscreen only, physical keyboard only or both.....the first one might not have a keyboard, but later models will...

I know. And to people who a real keyboard is important to them, will likely switch from Android to BB.

Not if they've never used a blackberry before.

Most people who have never used one and are used to android / ios would probably be terrified and totally lost when using a BB for the first time. Most of the people I know would never, ever switch from android to blackberry - there are lots of android phones that have a slideout keyboard, get one of those.

The Blackberry is one good menu system away from relevance again.

That's really all RIM has to fix.

Verizon needs to come out with a follow up to the Samsung Stratosphere. Just with Android 4.0.4,
NFC, and preferably an S4 processor.

Exactly. Cheering for RIM's demise is just plain dumb. They were an innovator once. They can be so again. I'm cheering FOR them.

Agree that it's never too late. I've jumped from BB to Android, but not by choice (thank you Verizon and your 4G/Grandfathered data policies). If I could keep my 3G BB until a 4G BB came out and still keep my unlimited data I would have done so.

When a 4G BB comes out, I'll likely move back. Android has its benefits, but so does BB - it all depends on what you are looking for and what you want to do with it.

I am in the same boat. Damn you Verizon! All because Apple does not want LTE iphones with unlimited data.

I believe Apple passed on LTE the last time around for the same reason RIM did. Too many compromises at that point in time. The iPhone and new RIM phones will both have that taken care of this year

That LTE is for data only, and even after voice over LTE becomes available LTE is still not common enough for people to be able to rely solely on LTE, thus all LTE phones also have to a 3G radio, and even a 2G radio...running all those radios burns through the battery very quickly...

But when LTE becomes common enough that phone can get by with ONLY an LTE radio and nothing else....battery life will not be an issue...

That is true - but LTE still uses more battery power than a WCDMA radio does.

Case in point - compare a CDMA/LTE phone to a GSM/WCDMA phone. The gsm device wins every time. Compare the newest Galaxy S II At&t batter life vs. T-Mobile battery life. GSM wins every time based on comparable battery size.

I love my Blackberry. I really don't want to let it go...but I have the Rezound, too. I have been carrying the Rezound around unactivated for two months now and I have to decide by the 28th if I am going to stay with my 3G Berry or take the plunge and activate the Rezound. If ONLY the Rezound had a keyboard.

I really get tired of saying this so this will be the last time (today):

There's no such thing as being 'too late' to enter a market....

When you say that product X is 'too late'....the implicit assumption behind this is that the way the market is TODAY is set in stone and that this is the way it will be from now until the heat death of the universe.....which is nonsense....

It's not true of ANY market that it is set in stone, and it is certainly not true of the smartphone market, which has witnessed an exceptional amount of volatility over the last 5-10 years...

The last thing we want is for it get to the way it is with PC's....where you have Windows with market share and all the other OS's in the single digits....you know it di...

I still think RIM will be broken up and sold. Not sure how they will look like by then. Too much talk from RIM about new phones they should have released them this month. At least a definitive date but no just end of year. Once the new iPhone 6 releases the 3Gs will be free along with the 4.
