Whoo boy... a fresh topic... that BS lawsuit was getting stagnant 😳 But on a serious note, all Qualcomm is god for is their chip production (great chips too).

Actually, Qualcomm has patents for just about every wireless technology. They have more to say about wireless infrastructure in the USA than anyone else does. They sneeze and the entire industry catches a cold.

Im not trying to imply that I don't believe you, cause I do. But I was wondering if you could give me a few examples of what kind of technologies they are responsible for? Thanks.

That's a pittance compared to what they really do and control here in the States.

I wouldn't call having control of cdma a "pittance". They have their finger in every cdma pie in the world. The guy asked what technologies they are responsible for, and the answer is cdma. They are more than cdma, but cdma is their main business.

So all the 3G (WCDMA/UMTS/HSPDA) over in Europe, Qualcomm is responsible for? Thanks.

no. they happen to make wcdma chips though. but they are not responsible for the wcdma technology itself. they licence out the other stuff.

Yes. It is their design that was modified by the European developers to meet the EU's requirement that the technology be homegrown. They will receive some royalties for the technology. Their chipsets are the best available as far as reliability is concerned.

Where do you get your info? Qualcomm has no rights to wcdma technology. It is open to anyone. They make wcdma chips that they can make money on, but not one person has to pay qualcomm money to use wcdma, unless they buy a qualcomm wcdma chip.
By the way, qualcomm chips are know to be some of the worst. If you want wcdma, get a lucent chip.
Great. More "experts". 🙄

The original patents for the WCDMA RF interface were from Qualcomm. The data layer is from other sources. This came as a settlement with Ericsson who claimed to have invented CDMA. And no I am not claiming that CDMA and WCDMA are identical, they are completely different but the spread spectrum technologies have more in common than in contrast with each other.

Well, let's see. They ARE CDMA, from inception to development to application. They were given significant GSM patents as part of a settlement with Ericsson. Ericsson and their cast of clowns got patents from Qualcomm for UMTS. Except they didn't get the complete knowledge of the technology and that is why the Japanese and Europeans have had such problems with it.
I would say that they have as much to say about the wireless industry as anyone does if not more since the wireless technology every carrier will go to is something they originated.

There are many sources for information. Like Qualcomm themselves. Also having been in the wireless business through all of the changes and reading the memos helps. Information disseminated by wireless carriers is by far the least reliable.

No such thing?

When you constantly follow someone around and make crappy comments towards them, then that is known as "trolling". You know it and so does almost everyone on this forum. It's derived from the word "troll"... trolls hide out under bridges and pick fights as people cross the bridge. Of course, I could just click the "report to moderator" link and have the Billy Goats put you in your trolling place. They have already had to erase several pages of your unwarranted insults towards me...

All deserving? I'm not sure about the rules on this site, but I'm pretty sure that there are no excuses for insulting people. If you have a problem, that's what the moderators are for. Keep your personal attacks to yourself. Just because you deem someone "worthy" of your immature tongue, doesn't mean that you have the right to insult anyone.

I never "admitted to egging" you on. I admitted that you took a comment the wrong way and added 1,000 lbs. of drama. Once again... you didn't ignore anything for weeks. You managed to keep from insulting me for a few days, but insulted other people instead. You took a comment wrong and started all this crap up again.
I think it's hilarious that you want me to "leave you alone"... I think I asked you no less than 10 times to leave me alone a a week or so ago. Where was your protection of solice then? Now you ...

I was quoting you.
I was mocking you.
You know, calling you out on your "the last time I'm going to ask you" drivel.
