It's about time something is done about this. But I believe that a company has a right to do this to any product it sells. I think that if someone is not satisfied with this they should just switch companies. Love being able to use my v551 with my headset, computer or any other BT device.

its called false advertising

They did not falsely advertised anything, you can connect it to your PC or PDA. You can use it to connect to the internet. They did not say "you can transfer files to a PC or PDA whenever you want."

I belive they said it is Bluetooth, not sometimes.

Bingo Jukebox GOOD CALL

But VZW NEVER stated what bluetooth profiles were supoported people just assumed that it was fully enabled. NO where in print have I ever seen say that VZW had the V710 full bluetooth capable.

Every other phone carrier allows full bluetooth capability so Verizon should also. Verizon is the demon seed
...
First off Verizon doesnt have to follow what everyone else does. If they did that then they would not be one of the best carriers out there. Second, this lawsuit is not going to go anywhere. The statement, "Every other phone carrier allows full bluetooth capability so Verizon should also," is not going to hold up at all. Theres no rules saying what each carrier should offer to its customers. Verizon didnt falsly advertize anything. THe phone has bluetooth, it can connect to a PDA or PC via bluetooth for modem usage. I am also going to shoot down, "Well bluetooth is bluetooth," because if that was the case then Microsoft should be sued for offering Bluetooth mice and keyboards that you cannot use a BT headset with, or exchange files with. What they did was very misleading, and I can remember companies being sued for misleading custtomers. They said it was able to connect to computer via bluetooth. MOST people would assume that means transfering files too, and I'm sure Verizon knew this. There is NOTHING in the history of bluetooth capable cellphones that would show otherwise. It's just common knowledge that you could do so. Verizon knowingly took advantage of that. They also knew if they did tell the truth about it from the begining (which they made NO attempt to do so) they would loose sales on this phone. Even if the lawsuit goes through they will be hurt in the long run. The knowingly mislead customers. Now that it's made public there willl be a lot of hgonest hard working...

I'm sure you know what happens when you assume. That's where the problem lies. All these people want Verizon to baby them and hold their hand as they make their phone decision. Make up your own mind, do your reasearch and get what you want and need, not what you think you are getitng but didn't because of a lack of research on your part.
It's funny really. On every other phone, you have to pay VZW in order to transfer files and data from...

LMFAO Big Daddy..AWESOME post..I cant say much more than is said here, but WTF is those idiots (Aarynk and The Verizon Man) meaning Moto should be sued because you cant transfer files from a computer to a Moto HS8*0 headset..its a headset for listening only DUH and there is no need to "transfer files"..that is utterly ridiculous logic but I expect that from them..HOWEVER it does transfer audio sounds (what it was created to do) so in reality, it does what it is advertised to do..VZW sucks!!! GSM GSM GSM GSM GSM GSM!!!

If anyone is the type of person who would rather have a cool phone than great service, they should simply switch to a carrier that has what they wann. I have the best of both worlds because Cingular allows for all of its BT phones to be fully enabled and they have great service and coverage.

This is also what I have and it ROX

First of all, if they offered what everyone else offered, they would be more competetive. Verizon would have to work harder to bring in more customers. Second, you're right. The statement: "Every other phone carrier allows full bluetooth capability so Verizon should also," won't hold up. But how do you think their customers feel about that statement? That they are not being offered something they could get from someone else, would make customers angry at their provider and then they would switch. And Bluetooth is Bluetooth, bud. I wouldn't expect a BT headset to transfer data or even connect to BT mouse or keyboard. I would, however, expect my BT phone to transfer data and connect to the internet from laptop. And the fact that Verizon made c...

he means that it says Bluetooth, not bluetooth with certain profiles disabled.

Er, but that isnt what bluetooth means...

Not everything that has Bluetooth has every BT profile in it either. So Bluetooth enabled doesn't mean it does everything BT is capable of doing.

Here is the way I see it. Verizon said that the phone could connect to pc and pda. Some sales people even said that it would have the capability to transfer pictures and mp3's through bluetooth not even knowing themselves if it did or not because even they expected bluetooth meant full bluetooth functionality. It does connect it but then users found out all it can do is DUN and connect to a headset. Users started to complain and Verizon then confesses and says yes we disabled the features but we'll enable it in the next software update so keep your phone until then. Time goes by while people are waiting for the software update and are constantly being told next month and has still not been released. I purchased a V710 thinking it would have ...

....Its called number portability and at least a 15 day trial to test the phones features.
The V710 isnt *that* great of a phone, nor is Verizon that great of a carrier. Sounds like someone has a bit too much time on their hands.
...
So Vzw is blaming BREW now. A likely story. Vzw could find a way to enable Bluetooth if it wanted to. How do others do it? And does this mean the promised "at some point in the future" V710 software upgrade is just marketing happy talk? Wouldn't it conflict with it's BREW contract as well?
The answer to the subject line's question is sue and switch. The two actions aren't mutually exclusive. A message needs to be sent that no one company should have the right to manipulate emerging technology standards to make a nickle. Had Vzw advertised limited Bluetooth on the V710, it wouldn't have sold nearly as well. Instead they exploited Bluetooth's positive PR, and bait and switched in order to lure contracted revenue and sell phones.

I like the business modle
Sell stuff, Make money!!!
That works for most places.
...
Yeah, it's like the "paper charge" they pulled a year or so ago. Instead of rewarding customers with a discount for switching to internet billing, Verizon charged every customer, in certain markets, a $2.99 "paper charge" to force them to switch. 1 month x 20 million customers x $2.99 = a lot of money earned in a very unethical fashion. Frankly, I'm not surprised by any of the stuff they pull anymore. I don't think they can honestly have the customer in mind when they pull stunts like this over and over at the expense of their own clients.

I can't, but I can tell you that a csr supervisor told me so during a conversation about finding a cdm 9900 for sale. I mentioned off handedly that Vzw was not known for having a good selection of phones and I specifically mentioned that it didn't have any good bluetooth phones . He rejected this and told me that the V710 was a great phone with bluetooth and that "all the reps have them and think they're great." When I pointed out that it's blueto...

Right, lets all sue. The american way I guess.
Too bad the lawsuit is completely groundless, and the carrier has clauses that protect the customer in case they do not like the handset or service plan.
"Bluetooth" to john doe is connectivity to their bluetooth headset...and perhaps their laptop. Not some obscure feature such as object exchange....which apparently can be used to pirate BREW software. Im sure the court will just LOVE OBEX + BREW, the Napster of cellular phones..
Verizon (or any other carrier) has nothing to gain from crippling phone features. How is preventing vCard exchange greed?

thats exactly why i didnt go with VZW when they came out with the V710. their service is great, but the fact that i cant transfer files/photos is pretty crappy i think. good thing i looked up the phone specs before i went into VZW to switch! 😛

That would be great if the coverage of the other providers were as good. I travel a good bit and have had MCI, AT&T, Cingular, and all had lots of dropped calls in areas that my Verizon does not. That is where verizon gets you. I wish Cingular had the coverage but the I-95 corridor and the surrounding areas are very shotty at best, as they are in the Pocono area where I spend lots of time. Too bad though and I can't wait for the day that they expand, then its ADIOS verizon.

Verizon and teh "brew" have been very frustrating at best, because of the disabiling of features and bluetooth functions, I switched from Verizon to AT&T. Was I happy to do so?? NO but because of the idiots at Verizon who want to control everything on their phones I switched and also dropped 4 other accounts from our bussiness because of this. Think of it like Microsoft selling a PC that only ran their programs and could only connect to their web sites. You pay for the phone and how you use it should not be so controlled by a company that wants all your money to go to them. It wouldn't be so bad if the comapny was up to date on everything but Verizon is sooo far behind the competition it is pitifull. So YES we can hear you now..but of course...
