How do you know when you are using 1900 HSPA+ ?

Suppose you have an unlocked 4G Android phone that right now uses the AWS (1700/2100) bands for HSPA+ but it also has a 1900 MHz band. How would you know when your phone happened to pick up that 1900 Mhz band that T-Mo is testing? My Amaze 4G does not show what band it is using at the moment.

My Samsung Phone has a change in the Icon at the top of the screen depending on what you are using, this may happen on your phone too.

When I'm connected to a network using 1900, It displays a 3G. Further inspection from the menu stats that the phone knows 1900 as "UMTS". When the phone is connected to 850/2100, on my phone, it displays as "H", further inspection of the menus showed this to be HSPA. My phone is a Galaxy 5 (HSPA 10.1).

Your phone might work the same way.

I wonder if my phone also works the same way though the manual does not mention a H code: only 2G, 3G or 4G.

It might be phone specific, I'm not really sure. I actuially had a big problem, my phone would bounce between the 3G frequency and the HSPA frequency, which was killing my battery. The icon would change every 5 - 10 seconds from H to 3G, and then back again. When I checked in the wireless nad networks settings, thats were it showed me the UMTS for 3G and the HSPA for the H icon. I called tech support and they told me that on a prepaid account if I had mobile data turned on, and the account provided no data, it keeps trying to get a data connection on whatever frequency it could.

Then you can only blame yourself if you had no data on your account, yet would you turn on the data. What did you expect?

Easy just buy an unlocked iphone and see if its 3g or EDGE 🤣 short of that under netwrok settings there should be an option formobile network, you can check to see if that shows what band you're on

this may be a stupid question, but why would you need to know if your phone is connect to 1900 as opposed to 1700/2100 especially if you're using a Tmo phone? its going to be the same hspa+ speeds you had, the 1900 is more beneficial for Tmo customers who use iPhones since they'll be free from EDGE

I would not *NEED* to know, but wouldn't that be nice to know if your phone can really work on that new 1900 band and how well compared to the old AWS? Otherwise how would I know if T-Mo really deployed it in my area or not?

Why wouldn't you? AWS spectrum isn't so great, it's a possibility that the 1900Mhz spectrum might be better for high speed data.
