Let the Bidding Begin

It seems that it T-Mo can out VZW (don't see it happening) the may be able to accelerate their 3g network creation. But like most with most auctions, VZW and maybe Cingular will flash their fat wallets and begin bidding more or less against each other... I wouldn't count out T-Mo or ather smaller companies either though... 😈

I disagree... I think that Vodafone may use it's money here to allow T-Mobile to be a real nationwide competitor.

I think you're right, sort of. It was reported here earlier that T-Mobile has set aside a big chunk of money to obtain more spectrum ASAP (see https://www.phonescoop.com/news/item.php?n=10 29) so I would expect them to be major players in this auction. I should point out though that T-Mobile's parent company is Deutsche Telekom not Vodafone. Vodafone owns a large stake in Verizon.

Tmo def. has the pockets to get the spectrum they need w/ Deutsche as they're parent company they will acquire the spectrum bc they know they're against the wall on network expansion, they need to keep up w/ Cingular and Verizon. Survival of the fitest

That's a distinct possibility. Deutsche knows that Tmobile can't exactly grow without the spectrum it needs to accelerate its 3g plans. This should be absolutely fascinating. In one corner, you've got Verizon: The company needs the spectrum (to a lesser degree than Tmobile), and it also doesn't need Tmobile becoming more of a competitor than it already is (yes, Tmobile is still a competitor, 25 million less subscribers or not). On the other hand you have Tmobile: They desperately need the spectrum if they're going to continue being competitive in the U.S. The fact that they both m...

Ever hear of Salmon PCS, Cellco Limited Partnership, Native Alaska Wireless, or Black Crow Wireless? Either has anyone else.
Those are the names of the big winners in the aborted auction a few years ago.
All of them were merely front companies that did the bidding and used one of the big boys' money to pay. The plan was for them to sell these licenses to the parent.
Verizon will seek to not only get more spectrum, but also get more licenses for buildout.
T-Mobile desperately needs the licenses because they cannot build a credible GSM/UMTS network with only 30MHZ of bandwidth. D.T. will either have to release the funds or realize that the U.S. market is tougher than they thought and sell out. T-Mobile's position right now is not very e...

Cellco Limited Partnership IS Verizon Wireless. It's the company name created back when Bell Atlantic Mobile and NYNEX Mobile merged. Bell Atlantic NYNEX Mobile, and then Verizon Wireless are just DBA names for the existing company. It's not a "front" - it's the actual company name. Any VZW employees here can verify just by looking at their W2 forms, and it would be on any Annual Reports as well.

True, but since when is Salmon PCS recognized by Cingular as one of theirs and Black Crow Wireless by USCC?

Yall act like Tmobile is small. Tmobile is the #4 in the US. And yall forgot that Tmobile corp is kinda world wide. Remember that D Telecom is apart of them. There not just a USA mobile company. Tmobile has customers in Europe and other parts of the world. And we are not just talking about roaming agreements (actual network). While cingular, sprint, and nextels is US only. I believe tmobile is #2 carrier in Europe. Believe me tmobile funds isnt low as some of yall making it to be. Tmobile is a new US carrier, so it isnt going to be as large as these USA veteran carriers. But as a whole tmobile corp/ D. Telekom its on top along with Vodafone.

This is very true. I don't know the actual order of international carrier rankings but I do know that T-Mobile worldwide could buy Cingular without too much trouble.
T-Mobile USA is up against the wall in a few issues. They need more bandwidth to roll out any 3G network and they desperately need to expand their coverage.
They are smart enough to know this. As for revenue growth, voice is not going to do the job. Innovative new data features are where the future revenue growth will occur. I can see Cingular not giving T-Mobile the same preferred roaming agreements now that they own ATTWS. T-Mobile is facing competing without the help that they had before. The fact is that Cingular no longer needs T-Mo now that they own networks in the for...
