1. The majority (not all) consumers do not need nearly as much data as they think. Many people want unlimited just because it is unlimited and they don't ever go over 2GB. I do think that Verizon needs to have a couple of higher tiers for this structure. Maybe 15GB and 20GB? This would help accomodate both power users that use a lot of bandwidth and people who actually have all 10 allowed lines (even at 20GB for the plan that would only be 2GB per line.) I also think that basic phones should be more than $10 less than smart phones, I think $20 seems fair to me for a basic phone.
2. I get what you are saying about T-Mobile not letting you pay an overage to use more data, but they let you change your data plan to a higher plan even during the billing cycle then you can change it back later on without contract extensions. What they are doing is at least better than VZW or AT&T where they just start charging you if you go over.
