You're not reading it wrong.

Pics/vids to send and receive as well as streaming has just gotten a lot more expensive for a family.

say you have three lines, we can compare:

  • at&t: $30 for 3gb x 3 lines = total $90/month with 3gb per line, not shared
  • verizon: $90 for 8gb shared on this plan,

  • but $50 for the first gb is unreal.

Exactly, I'm cool with these being the new Family Share plans. But this really screws over those of us who are still on a single line account.

Lets do a comparison: 5 smart phones

    ATT 5 line fm talk 700 (700 anytime, 700 roll over) $99.96
Unlimited msg and unl mobile to ANY mobile 30.00
    5 3 gb data plans @30ea (15 gb data 150.00

    Total $279.96

    Vz

    5 lines @ $40 each $200
    10 gb data shared 100

    Total: $300

If you knock down the data to 9.6 g for ATT, the price is $259.96

    Did I do that right?

    EXACTLY!

WTF?! I really hope Verizon doesn't manage to pull a fast one over anyone's eyes with these bullshit prices. I was really hoping that VZW would capable of offering a valuable plan. This is not it. This is a joke.

The CFO of verizon did assure investors that customers would spend more money! The people that thought these family data plans would be truly beneficial to the consumer are idiots. They tack on a line access fee per device ranging from $10-$40, they lock you into a etf contract per device at $350 per smartphone, tablet, hotspot. With plans like this I will Gladly pay full retail price on my next phone! 😈

The "per device access fee" is actually pretty good, considering it gives you unlimited talk and text. $40 for unlimited talk and text on a smartphone, $30 on a smartphone? Very fair.

It's the data plans that are ridiculous. And I wonder what the overages look like....

It is 15 per gig over.
Or change the plan 10 for an additional 2 gigs.

Let's be fair? 5 unlimited lines at Metro on LTE (granted it's much slower) are $175 per month. That won't even get you started at Verizon based on these plans. Out of their damn minds!

Comparing the major carriers to MetroPCS isn't exactly too fair, given the levels of service are drastically different. But you have a point, and my point was simply that the per-line access fees are fair (for unlimited talk and text, not for data) based on what they offer now.

The level of customer service is not there. As far as the phone service itself goes, voice is excellent. Data far exceeds 3G speeds but fall short of LTE service at Verizon. That said, speed is more than sufficient for phone use. There is no lag, no delay, and multi media services such as Youtube and Netflix work great.

The industry insiders really should be fair to companies like Metro. There's only so much consumers are willing to take and I think Verizon may be pushing that limit.

Except that there is no Metro PCS in the rural area where I live. I guess I should move or I am just out of luck.
