Didn't I recently read that Sprint is shutting down their iDEN network? Why would they offer a phone for a network that will be gone soon?

This is a CDMA phone, not iDEN. They are shutting down the iDEN network in one year, and have definitely stopped selling iDEN phones.

Right. I forgot that push to talk was available on CDMA as well as iDEN. I wonder if it'll be available on LTE.

Why would you want LTE on a feature phone? What would be the point with it's postage stamp size screen and lack of applications, features and specs that would warrant LTE...

This phone fits the niche that it is intended for.If you have this phone you fit in one of the following.

- This phone is being provided to you by your job.
- You bought this phone for your cranky father in law that flys into a tie raid when you try to introduce him to techo garbilty gook.
- You are punishing you braty kids by taking their smartphones away and activating this on their phone line.

-or-

You JUST need a PHONE to be a PHONE and not your all in one techo swiss army knife.

Eventually --EVERYTHING -- will be on LTE.
IT'S called VoLTE, Voice over LTE.
So yes, regular ph calls, txt msgs, direct connect, and data will all be over LTE sometime in the not too distant future.

Very True, but not before this generation of phones (particularly this Kyrocera POS) is replaced with its next upgrade.

Yea VoLTE is a very real thing that is happening but not as quick as some would have you believe. Overage rates for minutes is still quite profitable and the bean counters are still configuring exactly how they will bill data with everything being reduced to data usage.

Why would you call this phone a pos? Kyrocera/Sanyo have made pretty good phones over the years. Just because its not a geek phone and its for people that work hard for a living and doesn't suit your needs doesn't make it a pos..Sounds elitist..

No, not an elitist, far from it actually. I just do not like Kyrocera and what they did to the Sanyo Wireless division name.

I completely understand that sometimes a phone just needs to he a phone and not everyone needs the latest and greatest techno swiss army knife.

I just wish my carrier of choice, Sprint had more basic phones than just Kyrocera to choose from.

doubtful, these are work phones and they tend to just be standard phones that will last a few days for battery life. LTE would ruin battery life for these devices.

Do you think LTE on Sprint's 800MHz, will be similar to
Vzn's LTE on 700MHz? Speed wise?
