So, does this mean it will have a SIM slot to accommodate for the future software patch?

It will definitely have to have a sim card slot for this to work. Hopefully the Sprint version will have GSM support as well. These might be the first top-of-the-line Android phones on CDMA that also support global GSM, meaning global roaming. A huge deal.

I would assume so too, but I need GSM capabilities for work, so just hoping for it to be true!

Pretty sure. Any SIM capable phone sold by Sprint is listed as an international capable phone. The EVO LTE is not listed as international. So, no SIM card

As a side note, the S III is on sprint.com for preorder and is not listed as an international phone either.

I'm saying LTE requires a SIM card. If Sprint LTE phones lack a SIM card slot, then they have an embedded SIM. That would be interesting, because I didn't think any embedded-SIM phones had hit the market yet.

Hmm. We checked our EVO LTE, and don't see a SIM slot. So I think you're right about that.

But just because it's not listed as an "international phone" by Sprint, does not mean it wouldn't have a SIM slot.

All kinds of phones have SIM card slots that have no GSM/WCDMA roaming capability whatsoever. For example, iDEN phones had them, as do all Verizon LTE phones.

There are also some Verizon phones with dormant global roaming capability, which Verizon plans to enable with a later update. Verizon doesn't list them as global phones now, but they will, later. It's always possible Sprint could offer similar phones.
