... they are kidding, right?

I need to get out of contract so that I can move to a carrier that actually has 4G in my area, and doesn't do things half arse.

... I hear you man, loud and clear! At one time in my life, I was a miserable AT&T customer and little known secret to my Phonescoop friends, I was an AT&T employee at one time (not recently).

Their customer service and billing practices are anti consumer.

Just do it, go to a carrier that will appreciate your business and your hard earned dollars... Switch to Sprint... Unlimited Data !

My backup phone is on Sprint, but without LTE the Sprint S3 would just be a toy. I may go back to T-Mobile at this point or (gasp) big red.

They all got some mess with them. If only you could take the best of each and roll it into one carrier.

That's a bummer man, as much as a Sprint fan as I am. I do concede that wireless choice is heavily influenced to what is in your area as far as signal strength and feature availability.

Keep an eye out on the coverage maps, Sprint is pushing LTE hard and fast to all areas and of you're spending money on high end devices you really need to keep your options open for Unlimited Data.

Agreed.

Right now, Verizon has LTE coverage in my area (home, office) and Sprint has WiMax. Nearest AT&T LTE is 15 miles south of me.

I desperately want to get down to a single phone for voice and data, but although I love my EVO the battery life leave a lot to be desired (and is the main reason I won't buy a data-centric phone without a removable battery).

If Sprint LTE was available here I'd jump in a heartbeat, close down my AT&T account (even with a penalty) and live happily ever after. Fast phone, high speed data and Google Wallet, sweet indeed.

Battery life is challenging but the extended battery makes life better.

The HTC EVO LTE will have a 2000 MiAmp battery that's quite respectable.

But in another post, I have made it clear that I am completely conflicted, between the EVO LTE that's available now and the pending iPhone 5 ...

so your problem is that they are only offering the 16gb version or that you don't have lte coverage??? if 16gb is not enough, they are also offering a 16gb card for $39, thats a reasonable price and probably cheaper than the 32gb version of this phone. but if lte access is your issue, than i suppose switching is your choice...

Actually both. If at&t had LTE in my area, I'd live without the extra 16mb (although the choice to not carry the 32gb version seems arbitrary). If the phone has 32gb, I'd live without the LTE since I know it will eventually be available.

My Sprint line is up for renewal in September, and the local Rep thinks that LTE may be up by then around here (which is doubtful, but I'll take her at her word). I'll proabaly wait.
