If you get it on a two year contract , you'll want your GSIII to be able to use the newer network ( LTE ) without having to buy a new phone , or wait until your contract expires.

If I heard correctly (and I may not have) there's essentially two main variants coming to the US, a CDMA/LTE for Sprint/Verizon, and a GSM/HSPA+/LTE for AT&T/T-Mobile.

For the SIII compatibility I think it was just hear-say in an Engadget article, so take that with a grain of salt. Though it looks like T-Mobile will be rolling out their LTE in 2013 (apparently utilizing the AWS spectrum they just got from AT&T, lol), so selling a major flagship like this without the LTE radio would be a bad move, imo. Plus, if I remember correctly, LTE is built into the S4 SoC anyway.

Here's a couple articles on their planned LTE roll-out though:

I agree , bad move if newly released phones don't have LTE compatibility. Sprints LTE network isn't ready and they still released the EVO.
