Does anyone know if the V635 is coming to T-Mobile as well as Cingular?
The specifics said that the V635 is going to have EDGE, so I am assuming that it is a Cingular phone.

Having EDGE, I'd assume it's only coming to Cingular. T Mobile is light years away from rolling out with EDGE, I dont see why'd they try to market and sell phones with EDGE.

Thats not true, Cingular as of now has EDGE, but in a few months T-Mobile will launch EDGE. If you look at the Freqencies for the V635 it has 900/1800/1900 MHz on it. Cingular doesn't use 900, they use 850MHz. If Cingular gets that phone, it will have to say 850/1800/1900M MHz on the phone. So, my guesss this will be a phone for T-Mobile to support their EDGE launch. T-Mobile will not have to wait 2 years for EDGE, the President probably meant UMTS, (which is based on EDGE technology) being delayed for 2 years from now!

😁 Acutually my mistake, its a QUAD-BAND phone, meaning that Cingular and T-Mobile will might get it. Cingular might keep it a QUAD-Band phone, but T-Mobile might disable the 850MHz frequency since they don't use it. But, if you unlock the phone that will allow you to finally use the 850/900/1800/1900 MHz frequencies on the phone for roaming inthe U.S. and in other countries. In the US you will only be able to use 850 and the 1900 MHz frequencies, but if you leave the country you will be able to use the 1800 and 900 frequencies.

you both a wrong. edge isnt a separate format. you word it as if t-mo wont have it because its edge. do you think cingulars whole network is edge? no. its not. meaning it will operate on non-edge towers as well as those with edge. so in theory this phone would "work" on t-mo. it just wouldnt be able to take advantage of edge towers as t-mo has none at the moment.

EDGE is on about 90% of cingular's network.

the EDGE network with Cingular is just an overlay of the existing GPRS networks. They've had GPRS for about 2 years, so alot of the coverage for Data is for EDGE.

They might try to sell it on T-Mobile being as that when EDGE is not available the EDGE based phones automatically roll back to GPRS, but then again they might not because there is no reason to offer a phone with something that they don't offer leaning them to a competitor...

T-Mobile does not offer 900 MHz either. That is an international band... The 1900 MHz is also used by Cingular (New York, the Carolinas, and out west) So they may only offer it in those area... But THAT SUCKS!!

Cingular uses 850/1900 and T-Mobile only use 1900MHz. Both Cingular and T-Mobile can offer this phone. Cingular will offer it because its QUAD-Band, and T-Mobile can offer it as a Tri-Band phone since they disable the 850 MHz frequency from their model before they release it. Since the phone has 900/1800 you can use it in the U.S. and overseas, without buying anothe phone. If you go overseas only thing yu will need a another SIM card.

Cingular has actually given up their ownership of some 850mHZ Spectrum to T-Mobile. This was a pre-merger agreement specifically to the greater LA,NY, and some southwestern markets. Thus, this enables T-Mobile users to get increased coverage in these areas. Cingular did this simply because the Spectrum they gained with the merger, basically, made the 850mHZ obsolete in these markets.
