That'd be great. Once you go over the 3GB then you won't be able to browse or call. Great way of making our 'smartphones' paper weights, AT&T... Gosh!

That is a phenomenal point. Sooner than later, unlimited is going to have to be the way it is. If the carriers stall, the gov't is finally going to have to step in and regulate the industry. it's like the wild west out there right now...

I think that is a good point too. I also think that as technology develops, as our towers / recceives and phone equipment get better and cellular broadcasting is refined, that might not even be a problem.

Capacity will surely increase and so will quality.

The day will come when everybody has access to high-speed data NO MATTER WHERE THEY ARE and it will all be fully unlimited. It is inevitable, it's the way we are moving as a society.

If or when the gov't steps in, public interest will trump telco company's profits...just like in the past. These companies became way too greedy and were broken up, now it's just history repeating itself. The industry needs to be regulated. There is technology coming through the pipes that makes unlimited for everyone more than possible. Public necessity will take precedent over corporate greed that wall st runs on. It's happened in the past, and will happen again.

Right even though the Gov't pretends to be about the people and customers, they are paid off by the big boys to simply give you that illusion and hope.

That is right in many cases, but when the people are fed up to the point where elected 'representatives' are fearful that they will not be re-elected, they will do what the people ask of them...as terrible as that is...things change when politicians are scared, rather than looking out for what is best for the people. But this is a discussion for another website....

hahaha i won't get mine up either. it'll probably take years. I do know that a couple senators were talking about how verizon is raising prices "just because they feel they can." I'm sure we will be gouged for a couple more years.

When the infrastructure is already there and innovation stops, that is what will happen. That is in the very distant future, mind you.

Ok distant future I can't deny. I didn't think we would have what we do today 10 years ago.

10 years is not really that long, but based on previous innovation, it is likely this can happen in 10 years.

You are correct, 10 years ago there is no way I would have thought that data services could get as good as they are.

We can have the government step in and declare that everyone gets unlimited food, unlimited health care, unlimited clothing and an unlimited life span...instant utopia, just a government mandate away! Because after all, the mere fact that the government declares that a resource is to be infinite, guarntees that it will indeed be infinite, that's how the world works, right? Of course it is, God bless our omnipotent government, or should I say, Obama bless our omnipotent government.

You cant slap an unlimited label on a finite resource. Food is a finite resource, as is clothing, and life span (you are not from Asguard).

This wouldn't be the governments doing, it would be our own, based on technological advancements, and future technology does promise this.

Reminder: Once you reach 3GB data used, you can *still* call, text, and browse....the data speeds are just slowed WAY down. But you can still do it.

You can also move your plan to a 3GB plan and pay the overages if you want to stay at HIGH speed after reaching 3GB data used. FYI

Where he says that at&t has no plan of offering 'data only' plans....that's a rather important part of the story....in fact, at&t recently abolished the 'data only' option in 2010 requiring all smartphones to have a voice plan. They aren't going to back track on that.
