This is actually a very big deal. 3 mbs to each user... wow... this has the ability to change the way we communicate...

Think about it, this will change the way we connect to the net, the way we talk to people (streaming video phones on full duplex is a distinct possibility), streaming video and music... all through a little handheld. Think of the Tapwave Zodiac 2 and what it would be possible of doing with an always on 3mbps data connection with simul voice... Its going to create an ultra competive environment between ISP's, Cable companies, and Cell phones and competition is a very good thing.

As for the T1 reference... in my neighborhood Comcast laid a Fibre backbone where I can hit consistent 4.5mbps using Cnet's bandwidth tester. I have hit 6.2mbps when they first installed it... before they throttled the bandwidth. The official throttle is supposed to be 5.0mbps, up from 3.5. Bear in mind that this is not a full duplex connection... Comcast throttles connections at 512k Up.

First paragraph was exactly my point, when I posted the article and response stating 'The futere - Wow.' As far as these astounding cable speeds being discussed, I am truly taken aback. This must be a west coast thing. Nothing like that available out here as of yet, though fiber-optic lines have been run (don't know about a backbone). How long have these speeds been available, and why aren't they available here in Western New York more importantly? Razz
