Getting Ugly

This whole race to LTE is causing companies to pull out all the stops, to insure what they consider equal ground. At least in MetroPCS does. T-Mobile may be just trying to maintain this lead in LTE that they claim to have. Faster this, largest that, cheapest this and more this. I tell you, I get pretty confused with all this hype these carriers put out there and if your not careful, you'll fall right into the hype, too.

They're all taking away unlimited data or putting extreme limits on the so called unlimited data. Far as I'm concerned, LTE is bringing nothing but higher data prices and shorter battery life. What's the point of having all this wonderful tech, if you're limited to the point you're afraid of how much you use or if it jacks...

Honestly.... no. With one carrier following another on tiered data this and shared data that, and we're going to raise rates just because we think we have a good reason to do it, the likelihood of ever seeing rates decrease as a result of competiion is pretty slim. About the only thing that could help is if the big boys get TOO big, or make big enough moves to lose their customer base, but then you go to small regional carriers. We've seen that before. Looks like a lose-lose to me.

Yeah, I thought that fact was common knowledge by now but I guess not. T-Mobile definately does not have an LTE network, HSPA+ 42.2 is a great network, however.

I agree there is a point where some carriers may get too big, but I also understand that the customers are demanding more and more from the carriers.

To maintain quality phones at a decent price and a fast, good working network for them to operate on costs money.

Carriers must recoup their investment in equipment and maint' of it is some way, and money doesn't drop from the sky, unless you are LightSquared apparently.

We have two carriers who are approaching native footprint national coverage.

Past that, they get smaller and smaller and you may choose from the largest to the smallest, depending on your particular useage.

You also have choices as to what you want to do with your cell phone.
The more you want it to do, the more...

I don't disagree when it comes to consumer choice. You get what you pay for and pay for what you get. That's the way it should be. But there comes a point where the carrier has a responsibility to the customer as much as to their shareholders. Grandfathering has always been the way to increase your bottom line without angering your current customer base. But the way these people talk sometimes,it feels like they are going to make changes and them come up with any excuse possible to force a change to remove the grandfathered plans. Honestly, I don't take issue with necessary rate increases. It is the cost of doing business, but be honest about what you're doing and why.
