V6XX Series: Skeptical, very skeptical...

Sorry I have to vent on this one....

I remember the huge V600 hub-bub and too-doo that went on for months and months... I finally got one from cingular the week it came out from them, only to go through 4, yes FOUR defective phones in 6 weeks. Bad luck? Yes. True for every V600? No, but for many. But where is the V600 now? Pulled from the ATT and Cingular shelves in only a short matter of time. (I understand the same was true temporarily for the newer MPX phone too). Now there is the to-die-for RAZR, but at $400+? Give me a break.

I'm no phone expert or carrier employee, just a gadget-centric consumer and the V6XX series phones couldn't have been more of a let down. Too bad Sony Ericsson can't put their feature set in a Moto s...

Like I said, I'm no industry expert, but I can speak as a qualified consumer and from personal experieince.

So... when I say reliable I mean that I've had one problem free nextel i830 since it came out several months ago vs. four v600's with both physical (outer lens chipping & flaking, flip-hinge mis-alignment(phone often thought it was closed when open - hanging up incoming calls) and software problems (battery meter didnt work etc).

This is not to say that iden phones are 100% problem free either, but perhaps more durable and less to go wrong(?). I also don't have any knowledge of any substantial iden phones to be recalled or be "pulled" recently either. Or witness any recent highly anticipated (high-end)iden phone (i730, i830...

I think iDen phones are more reliable and durable because they dont so much focus on fancy things like camera's, bluetooth, cool ringtones, mp3 ringers and all that sort of stuff, just what I think. Im probably wong though 😛

Just my 2 cents and don't flame me. iDen is a Motorola technology through and through, much like QuickTime is an Apple Computer technology. As such, since it's an in-house technology maybe that is why the equipment is more reliable with the technology: iDen. I had the v600 also, and must say the original one I got which was made for the Chinese market worked flawlessly. It's only when I got the US version thru AT&T did I start to have problems. I went through 5 handsets since March. I just gave the last one to my mom, and she's pretty happy with it (it's the only one that worked properly and could hold a signal) and I have since happily upgraded to the Razr. Much better phone hands-down. I am looking forward to testing the v635 though.

Too much drama, I guess...
